I am in my fifties and still have a strong interest in todays Diesel and Electric railways. My interest in Diesels began in the very early 1970's with visits to Wellingborough Station to see Class 45 and 46 'Peaks' working passenger and the odd Class 44 on a freight from Toton. Eventually this lead to getting started in photographing the diesel scene in the early 1980's when I lived in Wrexham, North Wales. Iron Ore trains from Llanwern to Shotton steelworks used to rumble past my house in the capable hands of double headed Class 37 locomotives then laterly Class 56's In 1983 I moved to Hinckley, Leicestershire and I was very keen on taking photos around Leicester or Nuneaton. I used to travel anywhere for that newsworthy photograph. However, with the passing of time and favourite classes of locomotives, I then turned my attention to other matters. However, I have discovered the Heritage Scene and I really enjoy a day out visiting our Heritage Diesel Railways around the UK especially if there is a diesel gala taking place. Recently I have become interested in the steam engine that today's enthusiast calls a 'kettle'. Living so close to the GCR as I do, I suppose it was always inevitable that the unforseeable would happen.

D4 looked magnificent following its re-paint into green for its 50th Anniversary gala at MR - B. The old gal performed with distinction along with other peak companions D182, 45041, and 45133. D4 carried the name of Ingleborough rather than Great Gable on the saturday that I visited

 | 24th Jun 2007 | CFA Gala 2007
Went to the CFA Gala on the saturday. Didn't seem to be very well supported which was a shame. Weather not great. Saw some good running of 50007 and D212. 37314 was low on oil so ran less than the other two. Sir Edward Elgar look splendid after its re-paint, keeping same style livery

 | 5th Jun 2007 | Codnor Park Junction, Ironville
25321 collected 2 liner flats for repair at Butterley from 66534 at Codnor Park Junction. The 66 returned light to Lawley Street as it was unable to take back 12 repaired lioners due to the Ewewash blockade getting underway earlier than advertised

| Welcome to The Midland Railway - Butterley. This gallery looks at the diesels to be found at the preserved railway covering the diesel gala's and normal visits. I also take a look in the museum, around the yard and anywhere a diesel might be found. The photograph from across the reservoir at Butterley is probably everyone's favourite location. |
